Penelope in Tobaccoville, NC
Penelope

2/16/26: New photos showing Penelope's current size have been added.

Penelope is a sweet girl in need of a home that can provide proper diet and a safe environment. She's been through so much already! A while back, someone was called to catch a pig that had been brutally attacked by dogs twice in one week. They located her under the deck of a hoarder's house and took her straight to the vet and into into surgery. She has no other problems from the attack except for not having ears. She recovered like a champ after surgery to remove the shreds that were left. She has been spayed and has regular hoof trims, although it's time to trim her again.

Penelope is super sweet, but is seems like she could be a lot happier if she lost some weight and was more comfortable. She is morbidly obese and is being overly spoiled with food at the foster home. Penelope needs a home with someone who has a stronger will and doesn't cave to those pleading eyes! She has trouble walking due to her weight. (PPN would be happy to work with her adopter on a proper diet plan. Read about it here: Dieting a Pet Pig - Ross Mill Farm) Currently, she's not even getting out of her little shed any more.

Because she was mutilated/attacked by dogs, so a home without dogs or where they are in completely separate areas would be best. (Dogs and pigs should always be supervised and never left alone when together.) There are dogs at the current foster, although they aren't in the fenced area where Penelope is. She'd do well in a home with kids, as she is very friendly to all ages.

Transportation is available (within reason, preferably staying in NC, SC or VA) to the new home.

If you are interested in adopting, please complete the application and mention the name, city, and state of the pig(s) you're interested in: https://www.pigplacementnetwork.org/online-adoption-application/
